Markup Calculator
Calculate the selling price of a product using its cost and your desired markup percentage. Enter your figures in the white box. The purple box shows your selling price, profit and gross profit margin automatically.
How the Markup Calculator works
Markup is the percentage added to the cost of a product to determine its selling price.
This calculator uses the product cost and desired markup percentage to calculate the selling price, gross profit per unit and gross profit margin.
Markup formula
Markup amount = Product cost × (Markup percentage ÷ 100).
Selling price = Product cost + Markup amount.
Markup vs profit margin
Markup and profit margin are not the same. Markup is calculated as a percentage of cost, while profit margin is calculated as a percentage of selling price.
For example, a product costing $100 with a 50% markup sells for $150. The gross profit is $50, but the gross profit margin is approximately 33.3%, not 50%.
Calculating total gross profit
Enter the quantity sold to estimate total sales revenue, total product costs and total gross profit.
These calculations assume every unit has the same cost and selling price. They exclude additional expenses such as rent, wages, marketing, shipping, payment processing and taxes unless those costs are included in the product cost.
The calculated selling price is based on your chosen markup and is not necessarily the price customers will be willing to pay.
